To ensure that they have the best emergency medical equipment, Thames Ambulance has reviewed the lift-assisted stretcher trolleys currently available in the UK. The priority was to source a lightweight, practical and easy to manoeuvre lift-assisted stretcher trolley. Thames Ambulance selected VW Company’s MedAssist™ stretcher trolley as the superior product, answering all their essential needs.

Thames Ambulance has an established customer base of several NHS Trusts, London Ambulance Service and the private sector. Thames Ambulance has ordered MedAssist for their new additions to the fleet and plans to roll out MedAssist across the whole fleet. Matthew Baker, Contracts Manager of Thames Ambulance stated “VW Company have been appointed our preferred supplier of Ambulance Stretcher Trolleys”.

The MedAssist has been designed to provide greater assistance to stretcher trolley users. It is the lightest lift-assisted stretcher trolley weighing in at only 45kg (excludes mattress and belts). The lightweight will help reduce stretcher trolley users’ handling strain. The unique capability to convert the MedAssist stretcher trolley into a wheelchair will help stretcher trolley users access confined spaces. Additionally, the ‘directional lock’ functionality makes the MedAssist easier to manoeuvre and removes any ‘supermarket trolley’ wheeling effect.

The MedAssist stretcher trolley can be loaded into Patient Transport Services (PTS) vehicles on a standard wheelchair lift. The MedAssist is connected into PTS vehicles and the Ambulance, in the Station, which is a very secure locking device. The Station is now available with the ability to fit into tracking devices.
